vacuum pump

harbor freight has a 1.2cfm vacuum pump for 60.00. can a pump like this be used for wine making or do you have to have an aspirator type vacuum pump. If it can does anyone have the required set up you would need to build that you could post a picture of. Thanks, Ron

Any vacuum pump will work. I would highly recommend that it has a gauge and you don't go more than 25HG. 20 to 22 is good enough in most cases.

just remember............... GAUGE!!!!!!!

Edit: I should have added, it's not the CFM (cubic feet per minute) thats important since we are dealing with such a small space. It's the HG or vacuum that you want to look for. 20 to 25 is good enough.

Beware that these units spew fumes and oil out the exhaust and you will have to change the oil on those units and maintain them.
