Hey everbody,

Do you need to treat the wood with anything on new presses, ect. ????

I wondered if I should wipe it down with veg. oil or something.

Did some research and heard about EZ-DO POLYURETHANE GEL.

Has anyone tried this?

Food grade mineral oil. Same stuff you would use on a wood cutting board or butcher block.

Just got a new Weston Fruit Press which I will be trying for the first time tomorrow. I have 3 apple trees in my yard which are full. According to the instructions, they say just to wash with soapy water, rinse, then coat all metal parts with a food-grade silicone spray. Nothing else to it.

I was wondering, before I press my apples, am I supposed to wash them off or anything?

It's always a good idea to wash the apples before grinding and pressing. If they were drops, they have been on the ground and get bacteria all over them. Then if they were picked off from trees, they have residual sprays on them, be it chemical or organic. All it takes is a good spray with water. I put them in a large wash tub with water and a bit of chlorine. Then rinse them off thoroughly and you are all set.
