Same thing they do in other places that grow wine grapes and have Pierce's disease pressure, like California, apply imidacloprid in the spring. Four years and not a sign of PD or leafhoppers.

Believe half of what you hear and all of what you see cause' naysayers are going to nay say.
 
I'm not the only one doing this. There are several vinifera vineyards in north Alabama and north Georgia. I live at 1200 ft elevation and had below 10 degree lows a couple of times last winter which keeps PD at bay. I'm also growing own rooted vinifera of several varieties successfully now for four years in really sandy soil with no signs of root galls. Once a year drip irrigation application of imidacloprid keeps the sap suckers away.
