Does anyone else out there get Schwans ice cream? We have a lot of 2 1/2 gallon empty plastic containers that ice cream came in....However it only has a 2 recycle stamp....could I use these as ferment buckets?

I read this....The best food grade buckets are HDPE, symbol #2. HDPE represents high-density polyethylene. The molecules of HDPE are more tightly packed and stable than other food grade plastics, meaning less plastic can leach into your precious food stores. HDPE also builds a better bucket since it’s a very sturdy type of plastic......so I'm guessing that those will work fine.

Thanks, figured I'd give it a good wash and soak in oxy-clean green and they should be good to go. I knew I saved those buckets for something!

I have used them a time or two when doing small amounts of something but they aren't a very rigid plastic so you need to be careful with them.
