I just planted in 8 new Pinot Noir (101-14 graft) vines in Southern California. Well, we had an early spring this year and all of them had bud break three weeks ago except for one. I'm watering about once a week since I planted them bare root only 6 weeks ago (in clay soil.)
Is there any way I can encourage bud break on the stubborn vine? Less water? More water? Should I Prune off a piece (above the buds) and make sure it is green?
How long should I wait? I want to make sure the vine isn't dead! If it is dead I'm going to have to hunt down a replacement green potted vine (with same graft) which is going to take some time.
Thanks!
John
