Question for the large volume guys..

I see pricing for large quantities of grapes in tonnes. Are they sold in 1 tonne containers? Or by the 1/2 tonne? I've seen large square plastic containers but they look more like 1/2 tonne. I'm guessing that you show up at the vineyard with a fork lift friendly truck? Will likely never go there but I am curious. Would need much different equipment and more friends, but the economics are attractive.

Thanks

There is a standard container that is used in Nor Cal called a macrobin. When filled to the top, the grapes will weigh out between 800-1,100 pounds, net of the 94 pound container. It will vary quite a bit depending on the variety and how much water weight there is. All the commercial vineyards will have a forklift or tractor to load the bins. I will back my truck up and they will load in on, push it all the way forward and then I’ll strap it down.
