Initial Hydrometer Reading and returning the wine back into primary

I just took my first hydrometer reading--1.083. I did not return it to the primary fermentor. I drank it. VERY sweet. Should I have returned it? I'm used to beer and most folks never return the first sample.

But I think wine is more forgiving? Yes?

I want to start another batch soon. Should I return the original sample?

YOu did just fine with it. But if you like you can return the sample. Just make sure your container and hydrometer are sanatized. Drink it, pitch it back in, down the drain, they are all good. Down the drain is rather wasteful, tho. Arne.

Need to wait untill its done to drink it I too taste as it goes along, interesting how things change in a short time.

I love you boys with the Cast Iron Stomachs. I used to sample but now I spit it out. Two trips to the doctors on two separate occasions with an Intestinal Issue requiring 2 antibiotics at the same time was lesson enough for me. No Malvina doesn't swallow samples.
