I just received my little order from the toy store. The chemical is the chemical. (maybe if it was Viagra i could get exited about it but it calcium something))

The carboy wedges i haven't tried yet but are quite sturdy.

The carboy drier HMMMM----Well all I can say is that the photo does NOT do it justice. It is a sturdy large thing that I am sure will do its job well.

OK OK
Now for the joy

I am the proud owner of an Italian bottling spigot. Folks said dont ruin a perfectly good primary bucket by installing one.
I have 3 buckets and want to use one for final adjustments and bottling.

Help me to retain my joyby telling me anything that anyone can to make the installation correct and hopefully leak proof.

Hi scotty, I just installed two but its not an Italian one. It was
$2.50 and it turns around so you can mount it pretty low and spin it up
when you waqnt to get it out of the way . Every once and awhile one of
them drips but what it saves in time. and ease is worth it to me. Just
drill a hole preferably with a forstner drill bit just big to fit the
theads of the spigot over and do not over tighten it when putting on.
Test it with water first.

Abolut the only recommendation I would make scotty is to use a step bit and check the hole dia. for correct size as you go. Its always easy to make the hole a little bigger but makig it smaller is about impossible.

ok thanks both for advice.

waldo you are a troublemaker. all i dp is look at steam juicers lately.
I think ill wait to get a stainless one like you have.

Are they mostly 12 quarts???????

We love the spigot on our primary and bottling buckets....
In the primary it is so nice to drain the wine into the carboy and leave all the sediment behind...just tilt the bucket to get the good stuff off of the gross stuff.
At bottling it is the best, do have to tilt the bucket to get he last drops, but...there is some left behind to 'dispose' of.....
My husband installed ours, about an inch off the bottom of the bucket...He's a farmer and not a brain surgeon and was able to do ours just fine...he has many tools and I am not sure what bit he used.
Don't tighten too tight as others mentioned and remove it for cleaning.
At this time I have a batch of wine fermenting in 2 of our buckets....also have some fruit flies circling over my collection of tomatoes and cantalope...so I have the tops of the buckets secured tightly with a cloth over the top as well as small plastic bags tightly covering the spigots...like a condom...got to practice 'safe-fermenting' and keep the little buggers from going up inside the spigots.
Have fun with your new toys!!! :>)
