Every now and then you try one that really appeals to you. Anyone made the kit version of this? And how does it compare to this awesome wine?

Chateauneuf du Pape is in many kits under the name of Vieux Chateau du Roi. Mosti calls it Castel de Papa. It is a wonderful wine consisting mostly (there are a LOT of varietals that are allowed) of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre.

Chateauneuf du Pape = New House of the Pope
Vieux Chateau du Roi = Old house of the King
Castel de Papa = Father's Castle

Either way, get the biggest and best kit in that you can afford and you will be rewarded with a good one!

Our new neighbor that makes wine gave us a bottle of Vieux Chateau du Roi...he calls it VCR...it was very nice...a red with light flavor.

Light flavor? This is supposed to full and explosive and ruby in color.

I thought it was alittle thin...Nice tho...and..... I shouldn't complain when it was a gift.....

if it was thin, it must have been a VR or other more concentrated kit. VCdR's are usually on the medium to full body scale. It should also have been quite dark. A lot of VCdR kits use dried elderberries to add tannin and color.
