Hi- I live in the UK where 1 gallon is larger than an American gallon. I have just broken my one and only (very useful) American gallon demijohn. I don't suppose anyone knows how I could get hold of another one in England. I don't mind paying to get one sent over. I really miss it as the size is perfect when racking and fining etc.

I would not be surprised if you can find American jug wine. This is California wine that comes in 1 gallon glass jugs.

I would purchase that instead, enjoy the wine, and use the jug as a demijohn. Much cheaper and enjoyable in the long run.

I know that Carlo Rossi sells wine in gallon glass jugs.

Well, if you cannot find one in Blighty, I would try one of the many brewing-supply mail-order houses here in the US to see if they will ship. Like this one: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/1-gallon-jug.html . Also, a couple of our own members run such stores, see here:

and here

Perhaps one of those would be willing to do business with you. If worst came to worst, I would be willing to ship one to you. (PM me for that.)

It's almost guaranteed to be broken during shipping. Send me a ticket for a trans Atlantic cruise and I'll bring you 2 of them. Always willing to help a fellow winemaker.
