Being the cheap person I am I purchased the (hand) pumped brake bleeder from Harbor Freight today. Can anyone give me a quick rundown on how it should be attached to the Carboy to degas. This is the $25 version that pumps up to 30"

Tube goes from pump to overflow reservoir. One more tube from reservoir to carboy, inserted into stopper. That's it.

So you pump it up to 20" and try to hold it for how long ?

Great .. Thanks for the info. Will put it to the test Saturday.

That is the kind I use - works well. I try and get it around 23 - I use a stopper and the clear tubing. When you start it will bubble up into the tubing so I pump and then around 10 release pressure for awhile then pump again and so on until I get to 20 to 23 - then hold it for about 30 minutes.

For all the newer (not younger) wine makers that follow every post looking for knowledge (myself) .. Let me give you a tip. You CAN'T pull a vacuum on a plastic Carboy.
