    elder flower wine

Last year my elderberry bushes were loaded with berries but before they were ripe enough to pick the birds stripped the berries. No berries left for wine making. I thought I might try making some elder flower wine this year instead of feeding the birds. Has anyone made this wine? Will it have a...

WineXpert question about my ice wine style kit

I am now at step 3. Stabilising and clearing. The wine has been in the secondary for 10 days. The instructions say: After 10 days check your sf against the chart. If it is higher than listed wait 2 days. The chart says <1.060. My sf is at 1.032. At this point to add the metabisulfate and...

    steam juicer

I am thinking about buying a steam juicer. Any suggestions? Pros and cons. What should I look for in a good one? How much do they dilute the juice? If you use one to make wine is it easier than having a bag of fruit in the primary? Mary Lou

    What about bananas

How do you use bananas? I have read to use really ripe bananas but have also to use green bananas. I have read to freeze them and also to just cut them up and throw them in. I have read peel and not peel also cook first and then use the liquid. What have you found works best? Mary Lou

    when to add more kmeta

When do you add more k meta? I have read to do at the 1st racking and I have also read to do it at the 2nd racking. I assume the 1st racking would be into the secondary from the primary. I am not asking if you do both but which one to do. Mary Lou

    wild black cherry

Has anyone made wine from wild black cherries? They are blooming now and I have never seen them so thick with blossoms before. I have tasted the cherries in the past and they have a very astringent taste. I am wondering what kind of wine they would make. My first problem would be picking them...

    Gooseberry Wine

I noticed an abundance of wild gooseberry plants on our property when out walking this week. Has anyone ever tried making wine from them? I know they are very tart but they do make a good pie that is similar to rhubarb in taste. Maybe mix them with strawberries? Mary Lou

    juice from apples

I have 3 apple trees . Don't know what they are. The apples are very good tasting but not good for pies as they cook to mush. I have made a lot of sauce but always have more apples than I can use for sauce. So I was wondering if there was a way to make wine or cider without a press.

    super clear

I have 7 gallons of wine. The super clear says it will clear up 6 gallons. Should I use another whole package or will this be too much? I also have some sparkleloid and betonite that are several years old. Are they like other additives that need to be replaced every year?

    making wine after several years

I made wine for several years but I never felt that my wine was as good as what I could buy. Gave it up for some time. Now I have a renewed interest in wine making. I have tossed all the old supplies and ordered fresh ones. I have been watching You Tube and reading a lot of threads here. There...
