    Aging wine in corny kegs?

Hey all, my wife is interested in making wine together at home. I'm a professional brewer and I still have a lot of my old homebrewing equipment and I also do some yeast propagation for my brewery at home, so I have flasks, 6 and 5 gallon carboys, buckets for fermentation, etc. I've been looking...

    Champagne Yeast Taking Forever

I am pretty sure my SP has been fermenting for over 2 months now. It looks like it is finally nearing completion, so I just added more energizer to try to help speed it along. I will not be using champagne yeast again. Most likely sticking to 1118 from now on. Hopefully it is worth the wait. I...

How much does top off affect taste?

I have a box of Redvolution Bota Box wine, and I was thinking about topping off with it for my Australian Shiraz when I transfer in a few days. Revolution is just a red blend that I enjoy... Not a great wine, but nice to have around.

RJ Spagnols Orchard Breezin' Kits compared to Arbor Mist?

I was at Wally's World today and saw that Arbor Mist had a Strawberry Zinfandel. I decided to pick it up since I was thinking about getting a strawberry Zinfandel or riesling from Orchard Breezin. I think it is OK. I was wondering if anyone could describe how Orchard Breezin compares to Arbor...

Any recommendations for Riesling and white zin kits?

Now that my Australian Shiraz is under way, I am wanting to start another batch already. I am thinking that a Riesling, White Zin, and a Mist Wine kit are what's up next. The first wine I ever had was a Schmitt Sohne Riesling and I also like Dr. Loosen and my fiancee and her mom both like white...

RJ Spagnols Just started my first kit

I just started my first kit. It is a Cru Select Australian Shiraz. Everything seemed to go well. I annoy certain what the OG was supposed to be, but I measured it at 1.094. I am excited about it!

Is there a place to find specifics of kits?

I am wondering if there is a site that has specifics of kits before you buy them. For example, I am looking at the Cru Select white chocolate white port kit, but I can not find anywhere what the expected original or final gravity of the wine is... Even in the instructions I got from Cru Select...

Why not just add lemon juice after fermentation?

With all the problems of fermenting with the lemon juice, I have wondered this. Why not just add lemon juice at the end of fermentation? Wouldn't it still give the same flavor?

    Higher ABV pee?

I am interested to hear what those of you who made pee with higher ABV have thought of the final product. I am considering making one up to 15-16%, but I do not want to do so if it will have a hot alcohol taste. I do not like burning alcoholic tastes.

RJ Spagnols Cellar Classic White Zinfandel?

I am getting ready to buy my first kit. My fiancee's mom doesn't drink my beer, so I want to make something she will enjoy and all I have ever seen her drink is White Zin. Anyone know if this Cellar Classic is a good one?

    Champagne Yeast?

I made Skeeter Pee once with Montrachet yeast and enjoyed it. I ordered more Montrachet to make Apfelwein and skeeter pee, but brewmasterswarehouse was out, so they asked if they could replace it with champagne yeast so I figured I would give it a try. Now I have 5 gallons of apple juice...

    Ale Yeast?

My friend is making another batch of SP. He has a yeast cake from an India Pale Ale that he wants to use. I told him that I didn't see a reason not to use it except for the possibility of getting some hops flavor, but I don't think that will actually happen. It is a clean ale yeast (Wyeast 1056...

    Clearing extremely fast

I racked my skeeter pee yesterday, added the sorbate, metabisulfite, and sparkaloid. Today, it looks like it is already clear. I am going to let it keep sitting, but I am thinking that I might go ahead and backsweeten and bottle on Friday. Has anyone else ever had theirs clear this fast? I used...

    Additional observational data

Just thought I would share what I have learned so far for future skeeter pee makers... I feel like if we enjoy something we should help each other out. I made a 6 gallon batch without a starter. I rehydrated 3 packets of EC-1118 and scaled the rest of the original recipe for 6 gallons. It took...

    Final Gravity?

I followed the original recipe. OG 1.070, right now it is at .998... Do you guys expect that it will get much lower?

Tried my first batch of pee

I tried my first batch of pee recently. I am quite impressed. I made it for a friend's graduation party and immediately started a second batch when I racked the first. Everyone that has tried it loved it and everyone that had it drank a little more than they should have in too short of a...

For those of you concerned with stuck fermentations

I thought I would share my experience so far with skeeter pee fermentation. A few weeks ago I helped a friend make his first batch. After we were done boiling, I found out that he didn't have yeast energizer or a slurry or starter. We decided to roll with it and we stirred and let it sit for 24...

Care to share some skeeter pee reviews?

I am still having trouble imagining what skeeter pee tastes like. I see so many people say that it is good, but no one has described if it tastes like lemonade, something completely different, if there is a strong alcohol taste or if it is well hidden, etc. Anybody care to share tasting reviews...

    Montrachet Yeast?

I have a slurry of Montrachet from a batch of apfelwein. Is this a good choice for Skeeter Pee or should I just order a different yeast and make a starter? No one on HBT had an answer for this question, so I was hoping I have more luck here.

How do wine kits stack up against commercial wines?

I asked this question on Homebrewtalk the other day, but I just wanted to get a perspective from people that I would think have more experience with wine. I am looking at kits in the 100-175$ range on brewmasterswarehouse. I want to start a bit of a cellar to have wine on hand for when non-beer...
