Using vinegar while making sugar blocks. (bee food)

I figured this was the best place to post this question.. I need to make some bee food. It calls for apple cider vinegar. I need to oven dry the sugar blocks before I put it on the hives. Do I need to worry about turning my still fermenting wine into vinegar while the sugar blocks dehydrate...

    Pre frement K-menta OD

Pre ferment K-menta OD I big think I have blundered big time....In my haste to get a variety fruit wine started I must have not washed all of the K-menta out of the primary. As I stirred the rest of the ingredients in I did notice a strong smell of it. I already had the yeast re-hydrated so I...

    Not quite honey

I have a bit over 2 gallons of sugarwater/honey that i extracted this fall. I cannot sell it as honey and it's too late to feed it back to the bees. I was thinking of making a mead. Have any of you used not quite honey as a base? if so what adjustments to a recipe did you make? When i tasted...

I have always like this one (a bit of reading)

I have always like this one (a good read) I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, sweet feed it on corn for a few weeks, then butcher it and eat it. Yum! Corn-fed venison. The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. Since they congregate at my cattle feeder...

How much Elderberry juice to use?

I have read that Elderberry's have a strong flavor. We did use a steamjuicer on our 20-30 lbs of berries. (I lost the sheet that had our exact amount of lbs.) Being that it is in juice form now how many gallons of juice to use for a 6 gallon batch? I just don't want to add any "extra" juice...

When should I see grapes forming?

Last year I had to thin out an acquired concord grape vine. Whoever owned the house prior must not have pruned it for a while. After doing some reading and watching some videos I thinned it out. There is plenty of foliage but as of 7/15 I don't see any grape clusters. I don't think I stressed it...

    1st time making SP

It was a hurry up and get the things together night. I decided to rack off our strawberry and start a batch of SP. I followed a recipe from a SP site EXCEPT the times. I did simmer the lemon juice in hopes that the preservatives would boil off. We used Real lemon as suggested but couldn't find...

Did I skip an important step?

A lot of the posts I have read refer to K meta and Potassium Sorbate being needed at bottling time. I didn't read them until I bottled 10 gallons. Now I'm worried!!! These are the steps we took while making our first two batches: 1)followed the recipe (maybe adding more/less fruit)...

The Mrs is in a better mood

While my wine making took up the majority of the counter top space in the kitchen the Mrs was getting more and more sick of it. So the solution was to move it all to the basement. We made a trip to Menards to purchase a few more lower cabinets and a few uppers. We have the lowers almost done...
