I'm growing muscadines, the nusery that I bought them from recommends 6 to 8 galons a week per plant for the first 2 years. I googled and found that 1 gallon covers roughly 2 square feet 1 inch deep. I water about 4 square feet of ground when I water a vine. So I figure that 1 inch of rain is the same as giving my vines 2 gallons of water. Am I figuring right, or am I of base. Any advice would be welcome, thanks. Or should I water as they recommend and when it rains feel the soil and use my own instincts?

Well, I'm no expert, but I've had good luck, just watering mine lightly whenever we go more that 3 days without rain. I learned with other crops that overwatering is just as dangerous as underwatering. Good luck
