Test sample question

Ok. Totally new to winemaking. I have my first WE Merlot going now in the primary. I am testing the SG today for the first time. My question is this. Assuming that I have sanitized the wine thief, hydromater, and hydrometer tube, is it ok to return the sample to the primary after testing?

As long as it's sanitized I don't see why not.

don't waste it. Dump it back in the primary.

I always return my samples...unless I decide to keep a little for a more subjective test

If you want to same your wine keep the gross lees and whatever wine is left and toss it in a Tupperware and refrigerate it you can use it to top off when you rack again and or sample which is what I'm currently doing right now.

Toss the sample for your reading back in

I find it hard not to drink it.

I recover wine from the gross and fine lees also, but the thing is that those rackings are few and far between
