Sanitizing oak beans

Do you sanitize your oak beans before you add them to you wine? If so, what process do you use? Being porous, would they bring too much SO2 into the wine?
 
I put them in a bowl, then set the bowl in a bucket that has some sulfide in it. Put lid on bucket and let the vapors do the work, oak beans stay dry in the bowl.
