Hello
When using a wine thief to test SG, it seems the Hyd sticks to the side of the thief, therby giving a false reading.

If that is so, what trick is there to get an accurate reading?

I have just been putting the Hyd into the wine directly.

BTW, the Cab I made last winter is great. (1st batch ever)

Jim,

I would suggest that you use your wine thief to draw the wine out to place in a test jar, which you could then place the hydrometer in to take an accurate reading (this is what I do).

That works by putting it in the wine directly or also as Dan said. If you fill the thief enough for the hydrometer to just stick out the top then can spin it and plumb the thief to keep it centered, takes some practice.

Now just to find out why the numbers on the hydro are always on the back side to the thief when it comes to a stop
