Wade is right. I would try to find someone who has the correct tool (or a 7/8" punch) that would cut a clean hole in the top. Don't use a regular drill bit. The hole will be irregular and will not seal well.

another question- the store forgot to include a second package of potassium metabisulphate and i just finished the second rack. would it be okay if i went back to the store tomorrow and just added it a day later?

Sorry no one got back to you. One day is not going to make a big difference. Wine making and wine are pretty forgiving.
