Prickly Pear Wine

is it ever alright to leave the needles on the prickly pear apples when I crush them in my wine press. When I was picking the apples the big needles and the hair like needles both went thru my welding gloves. I don't wont to remove the needles because I don't know how without allowing the needles to stick me. please give some guidence
