I have a friend who has a small vineyard and one vine of his Chambourcin ripens about 1 month before the other vines. Any idea what could be causing this. All vines are mature and right next to each other.

Thanks,
Glenn

Do you have any more detail? Where is it in relation to the other vines? Was it planted at the same time? What else is interesting about the environment? Near any buildings?

My guess would be that it's a different variety. Mislabeled nursery stock happens.

That would be guess as well. Almost no environment difference would lead to that much difference.

Thanks for the replies. The one vine is #5 of a string of 12 vines and were all planted 40 yrs ago. There is a neighbor's pine trees to the west but are down towards the 9th thru 12th vines. The trees do not canopy the vines and the vines were planted in the north / south direction.
