I've never added oak to a wine before. Do you have to do anything to them. They seems to just float there all bunched up in the neck of the carboy. Seems like you could give them a poke or slight stir once in a while.
I don't, but you can if you feel the need. Before starting to check the oak level at around 6 weeks I do stir the wine. Remember I'm rather lazy with my wine making and trust the wine to get where it needs to go at its own pace.
