Hi there everyone!

Just bought our first home in rural NSW in Australia and it appears we have grapevines in our back garden so I’m intending to see about making wine with the harvest in a couple weeks.

Does anyone know how we can determine the varietal?

As far as grapes, the only real way to say what variety it is is to test the genetics.

For the point of view on how to use the grape 1) skin color 2) flesh color 3) taste / tannins 4) what varieties the neighbors are growing. ,,, If you look at Europe where a lot of the grapes varieties started they are actually named for the region where they were grown. And there will be some variation in the plants.

Totally agree with @Rice_Guy ... Mourvèdre looks VERY similar to what you have. Check that out...
