Jim, Have you been the one prowling around my wine making cellar? The only thing you did not provide was pictures!

This is a photo of the right side of the cellar, left has racks and carboys too. Carboys are like hangers, the both use asexual reproduction, soon you'll have a cellar full.

Your cellar looks very organized :b. My small basement already has a woodworking shop, laundry section with washer and dryer, extra fridge, extra freezer, four pieces of gym equipment, recycling area, three food shelving, papers goods shelving, a whatever else shelving and three storage cabinets. Then of course there is the 330 gallon oil tank, the furnace and water supply tank. And I'm probably forgetting some stuff. Thing is all this stuff came before this wine making hobby so already wine making stuff is scattered all over several areas the basement, pretty much wherever I can squeeze it in and still get to the other stuff.

We have a pretty good sized cellar, to the left of this wine area is my workshop and picture framing stuff. Washer & dryer are on the second floor (wife loves it up there).

Although, I like neat, my better half gets the credit for keeping me organized. The carboy shelves are end tables from the late 60's from her Mom's house. (Her idea to use). I made the big shelves, they will hold 90 bottles each.

All in all neat and clean are good in making wine.

Bought another kit this morning. It was on sale so I figured why not apply the savings to the purchase of a new carboy. I now, ~ six months into this hobby, have three 6 gallon glass carboys.

Ps. I stopped at the vets on the way home and had the carboy neutered. I won't have to worry about my carboy reproducing like you guys do yours.

I like the big shelves .. have they been holding up? care to share the specifics? looks like they would be pretty easy to put together and relatively inexpensive to build?? do the shelves have any support under them?

Everything is 3/4" plywood. Sides are 11"x 48". Inside shelves are 11"x 25 1/2". Top is 11"x 27".
Shelf spacing is 14 1/2 at front measurement. Don't remember screws but think 2" all pre drilled, 3 along each side and top. Back is one piece Louan, brad nailed along all sides and into rear of shelves, very rigid.
Shelves are angled an inch lower in the rear of the shelf to so bottles won't slide out. However some Burgundy bottles with less contact between bottles slip a bit over two bottles high, would make the angle more to solve this problem. Have added a piece of wood post photo to raise the angle where the bottle neck contacts in front for Burgundy bottles, fit 30 w/o a problem. Bordeaux bottles not a problem with 1" slant from front to back of shelf.

So far, no bowing under weight, seem ok. No support under shelves at this point, however can be added if warranted.

I know exactly what you guys are referring to !!
I closed the door and all of a sudden there was an additional carboy and they kept growing !!
I have the Baby ones = 1 gallon and the Teenagers = 3 gallon and Females = 5 gallon and Males = 6 gallon

I had 14 because that's all I can afford. Haven't had any more for a few years and boom all of a sudden a new 6 gallon baby. My wife is making me use protection to cover my wallet when I go to the HWBS now. ;(
