Well, for all those planning to visit/live in Ca. here are the new traffic fines just levied. They are going to balance the budget anyway they can:

<DIV ="WordSection1">
HUGE CA Traffic Fines Effective 01/06/2011. Be CAREFUL!!!!!!

&gt; THE LOS ANGELES TIMES HAS AN ARTICLE ON:
&gt;
&gt; HUGE California Traffic Tickets Fines Effective 01/06/2011 Please be
&gt; extremely careful in your driving and car registration &amp; insurance matters.
&gt; State of California is broke and they are trying hard to squeeze all of us
&gt; hard to collect money.
&gt;
&gt; Effective immediately, if you do not stop at the red light, be ready to pay
&gt; $436 in fines or if you pass a school bus with flashing red signals, you will
&gt; be charged $616. The state of California is going for blood, so be extra
&gt; careful in driving, You cannot afford messing with them. I have been hearing
&gt; that Highway Patrols are under pressure to issue a lot more tickets than last
&gt; year with at least 30% increase in fines over 2009, so beware of radar guns,
&gt; highway and traffic cameras installed everywhere and the tougher enforcement
&gt; of parking rules.
&gt;
&gt; Just for your info, the next time you park in the handicapped zone, even for
&gt; a minute, you will be looking at almost $ 1000 in parking tickets , so it'd
&gt; better be worth it.
&gt;
&gt; California needs money, so pay close attention to the rules of the road!

what happened to that state...used to be the land of fruit and honey producing people w some common sense..reagean, dukemajian (sp?) wilson...i am sure these were not all perfect but now they show us arnold and brown and that crazy state house

Holy something but this is worse than crap. I was planning on a Napa/Sonoma trip this year but may rethink thator hire a driver. With just a couple of these tickets I will spend as much as a Tuscany trip.

Did anyone else notice this in the list:

&gt; VC 14600(A) $214 Failure to notify DMV of address change within
&gt; 10 days
</span>&gt; VC 4159 $178 Notify DMV of change of address within 10
&gt; days.</span>

You now get fined for changing your address whether you notify them or not!!!

I hate to be a party pooper, but I look at speeding or parking tickets as fines on the stupid. It is painfully simple and easy to avoid speeding tickets - DRIVE AT OR BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT!

Texas attempted to balance the budget a few years ago by dramatically raising the penalties for drunk driving, supposedly as a greater deterrent to DWI. Funny thing though, the people violating the existing laws didn't pay the new surcharges and didn't seem to care, and probably didn't even know about the penalties.

From the Dallas Morning News, August 11, 2010: The
original idea behind the program, which started in late 2004, was to
assess large additional fines, called surcharges, for certain
violations to discourage those types of offenses and at the same
time raise money for highway projects and trauma care.

Among the charges for which added fines are assessed are driving
while intoxicated and speeding more than 10 miles per hour over
the limit. DWI offenses carry the biggest surcharges: $1,000 a
year for three years on the first conviction and $2,000 a year if
the blood alcohol content is twice the legal limit.

But the program never worked as the Legislature intended. No
money has gone to highways, and trauma centers have received only
a fraction of what was intended.

The 1.2
million drivers who have not paid, more than 60 percent of those
slapped with surcharges, now owe the state more than $1.1 billion. </span></span>

they may be fines on the stupid..i agree when its the repeat offender....but there is a lot of simple mistakes as when you move...maybe there is a lot going on in your life etc...to me this is just another excuse to grab money that they will spend on more useless bull doo....there is no end...and they always rationalize that its for needed programs...

in my book, the stupid is that california citizens elect who they elect
