We've just started making wine. Our very first batch, which is Pinot Blanc should be ready to rack tomorrow or Saturday.

My question is:

The instructions for the wine say to let it come down to .998 SG. The Skeeter Pee FAQs recommends using a slurry racked at 1.005.

Will racking the wine at 1.005 harm the wine? It's only .007 difference, but I'm so new to this that I'm being cautious.

You should be fine racking it off then. Just watch your secondary as by racking you will probably get some oxygen in there and that can make it ferment rather hard for a bit. Then you can get some wine up in your airlock. Arne.
