    Cheap Wine

I just picked up a bottle of Five Oaks Shiraz for $3.33. I'd seen it in the local Rite Aid for the past few years and my curiosity finally got the best of me. For that price, I expected crap. I was wrong ... it's actually pretty good. Not world class by any stretch, but a solid everyday table...

    Frog Holler

Frog Holler is as much an event as it is a place. When the rains of February and March come around, ponds and marshes come alive with Spring Peepers and Chorus Frogs. They fill the night air with the promise of the coming Spring. It is a voice that calls us to gather friends and family for good...

    Malolactic Culture (dry vs liquid)

The Wyeast (4007) liquid culture is half the price of the dry cultures I've seen. Has anyone had experience with this product or know of any reason I shouldn't try it?

    NRCS Soil Maps (online)

I'll admit, I didn't think the data would be all that accurate. I guess I figured that the field sampling density wouldn't be high enoughtomake accurate assumptions for small areas of land and that thesoil dlineations and descriptions would be greatly generalized. I was wrong... For one...

    Campden Killing my Color?

I racked my 6 gallons of muscadine today. It was a nice dark ruby color.... until dosing withK-Sorbate (1.5tsp) and campden (6 tablets), now it's a washed-out blush. Is the kmeta bleaching the color? I'm not very hopefull that the color will return. I had named this batch Dark Beauty..... oh well.

    Muscadine help

The muscadine batches that I've done so far have used between 4.5 and 8 lbs of grapes per gallon. I haven't seen much onlinein the way of "all juice" (or mostly juice) recipes. I realize that the acid becomes an issue when you surpass around8lbs/gallon. I'm interested in pushingmy next...
