    WineXpert Barolo Orginal Selection Series

Sorry for the late reply. The Barolo was my first kit so I drank 1 bottle the day I bottled it. That was last Feb. and I only have the 1 bottle left. The taste really changed over time. It wasn't that good at three months but has gotten better with every month that passed. The last bottle I...

    WineXpert Mixed results

I've made 4 WE kits so far. My first was the selection original Barolo. I bottled it on Feb. 2, 2007. Of course being my firstwine, I began drinking it right away. It's now 4 months old and I only have 6 bottles left. I decided to buy a commecial wine to compare it to. I got a $20 bottle of...

    WineXpert What a difference.

On 2-3-07 I bottled a selection original Barolo. At first I was kind of disapionted with it. I thought it was weak and bitter. It's been about 43 days now and I decided to open a bottle. NowTHAT is much better! It doesn't have that lasting bitter after taste and has alot more body.I know it is...

WineXpert Island Mist Black Raspberry Merlot

I also have the IM black raspberry going. I just got done racking itinto the secondary. I just followed the instructions, no added sugar. The S.G. went from 1.050 to 1.001 in 4 days. I only checked the S.G. because the bubbles in the air lock got real slow and Igot curious.

    WineXpert Still a rookie.

I haven't had any problem with racking. I use the auto-siphon and bottling wand. I run the end of the hose under really hot water to soften it and it goes on alot easier. As it cools it tightens on the racking cane and bottle wand. I've never lost siphon.I just thought I was so careful it...

    Wedding Bells

View my other post I'm still a rookie but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I hear the island mist kits don't need aging. And being a sweet wine it may appeal to a wider variety of people. I was at a wedding werethey had a little bottle of arbor mist at each place setting. Went over big. Oh,yeah...

    WineXpert Still a rookie.

I bottled my VR riesling on friday. Today when I went to lay the bottles down I noticed some very fine sediment in some of the bottles. You really gotta look for it but it's there.I racked from the carboy into the primary and bottled from there. I even stopped the siphon early so I wouldn't stur...

    WineXpert Stabilizing ?

I got the same reading and stabilized the pinot today. I think I will have to check my hydrometer with water. And my skills at reading it. I place the hydrometer in the wine thief when I test from the secondary, It leans alittle it sticks to the side. When I check it in the primary I just let it...

    WineXpert Stabilizing ?

Well you know how it is. Once you get into wine making you wonder how many different this can be fermented. I think all that gas is just me.

    WineXpert Stabilizing ?

Yes, I'm refering to the airlock. I thought that since the S.G. is not dropping that it is done fermenting. I've kept the room temp. 66-70. With the heater cycling that as stabile as I can keep it. And I have waited more days than the instructions call for. Ithought since it still needs to be...

    WineXpert Stabilizing ?

Should I go by stable S.G. readings. Or should I continue to wait till the bubbles stop. I use the " S" type air lock. When I did the riesling the S.G. was at .990 for 5 days in a row but it still bubbled very slow. I went ahead and stabilized it anyway and all seems well. It cleared very nice...

    That was easy.

I bottled my second kit today (VR Riesling). And I used theportuguese double lever corker for the first time. Man did they go in easy. On my first kit I used a ferrari handy corker and that took a bit of effort even with #7 corks. This time I used #8 corks and they went in with ease. Oh yeah the...

Brew Belt on Glass Carboy ?

I noticed the warning at the bottom of the glass carboy reads do not heat. That may be to keep people from using the glass bottle onor in a stove. People do tend to get creative. It would probably take alot of heat or extreme and rapid temperature changes to crack the glass. I would think the...

WineXpert How long have they lasted?

Thanks for all the info. I see there are alot more factors than just the added sulfite. I was more curious to find out how many of youadd the extra sulfite and how many don't. I wanted to start another kit but, Ihave a Riesling about ready to be bottled and I'll need the bucket to mix in the...

WineXpert How long have they lasted?

How long have you let kit wines age without the extra K-meta at bottling? Has anyone had a kit wine go bad from sitting too long without the extra K-meta? I know mine probably won't last long enough to find out. But, I bottled a Barolo without and wondered how long I could let it sit.
