    Amazon Corks

Hi Dan - I was planning on storing them in paper bags. I had read that was the best way (I think somewhere on this site). Please tell me if thats wrong.

    Amazon Corks

These arrived today! They are excellent. These are 1" and 3/4 and lightly coated in parafin wax. all of the ones that I inspected look very well made. I threw one into an empty bottle and one into a bottle filled with water without any problems. i am going to pull them out in a couple of weeks...

    Preserving Basil

I typically will do two things with basil. I either dry it by putting it under a glass dish in the sun during the summer and crumble it up into pieces like you would get from a food store or just rip the leaves off the plant (do not wash them) stick them in a plastic bag and freeze them. When...

    Red Wine Champagne

Yea the thing is scaring me now there are tons of bubbles and some sugar sediment on the bottom. Can this this just explode on me? I have the cork tied down really good.

    Red Wine Champagne

Hi All - Just curious, has anyone ever made a sparking wine from their reds? I had some extra lying around today after racking with no where to put it. decided to add it to a mini champagne bottle I had lying around with a tsp of sugar and see what happens. Used a regular cork but tied it...

    Empire Apple Wine

Another update: Racked for a second time yesterday. I only ended up with a little more than 3.5 gallons of wine. About a gallon and a half was almost pure sediment. It looks like if you want 5 gallons from the recipe I used you must start with 7+ gallons in your primary. Lastly, I think that...

    Best Source for Corks

I'd love all natural corks but they are way to pricey for me right now. Maybe someday though, if I hit the lotto and open a small winery. One can hope right.

    Best Source for Corks

In my case the corks are the priciest part of my wine making second only to the grapes. I am really trying to find a reliable source for the future, I have found some great deals on grapes and carboys locally in CT but for some reason they all want to kill me on the corks (Have not been to M&M...

    Best Source for Corks

I took note of that when you posted in another thread (sneaky sneaky:i). I have yet to call and ask them if they just sell non personalized corks at that price (or just grape print or something generic). If so I will be buying from them. That's an excellent price from what I have seen for 1+1. I...

    Best Source for Corks

What are the collective thoughts on these corks? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VFXY3C/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I am sure that his has been asked before but my search on this forum was not fruitful. I am looking for the cheapest medium storage corks that I can find (2-4 year). 1+1...

    Anyone using oak barrels?

Just an FYI my grandfather made his wine in whiskey barrels. Tasted awesome. A smokey flavor but awesome. Try fortisimo wine it's that type of flavoring.

    Using wooden barrel

How big is your Barrel and how much wine did you make? For less than 20 gallons your plan sounds good, as your barrel ages you will need to leave the wine in longer. For like 65 gallon barrels leave it in there for 3-4 months. With new barrels I always burn a sulfur stick in them. Who knows how...

    Oak Advice

Most oak added to wine is toasted to varying degrees ( light, medium, heavy). They come in spirals chips and cubes. It costs 2 bucks for 2 onces of oak chips (enough for 5 gallons). I would buy some at your local brewshop or online so that you do not run the risk of ruining your wine. You would...
