    Wasp Damage

Hey all, the yellow jackets are wrecking my grapes. They sting the berries at the top of the clusters and then the other flys eat the berries. Can I add some insecticide like sevin to the mix, I mean will it help??

    Trellis system for Petite Pearl

Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with trellis systems for Petite Pearl. I am currently on 4 cane kniffen on everything, but I am going to concentrate on the pearl, so wanted to know your thoughts. Less than 100 vines so labor is not a factor. Thanks!

    Seeing some black rot-pull clusters?

Despite spraying of captan, mancozeb and daconil, I am seeing black rot emerging on clusters under the densest areas of the canopy. Should I remove the infected berries/clusters or just let it go. I removed all the mummies last winter but its been real wet here this summer. Thanks.

    The annual picking conundrum

Well, its that time again. The LaCrosse, Marquette, Frontenac, F.Gris and F.Blanc are all in the high teens on brix. Starting to see lots of bees on the F.Blanc and a few berries going south on the others. Do I pick or hold out for the low 20's? What say y'all. This week's weather looks real...

how many times can you treat with reduless?

    New Vineyard orientation

My new vineyard is a rectangle roughly 100 by 150 feet square. The east/ west is the long dimension. My question is should the rows run east west or north south. The north south rows would be shorter and I can look down the rows from my house to look for varmints. What do y'all think?

First time with high acid eastern grapes

First time with high acid eastern grapes. I am getting a pH of 3.4 and a T/A of 1.9 pct on a field blend of Marquette, Frontenac, Frontenac Blanc, etc. my Lodi stuff has been running 0.7 T/A. Should I adjust at all in the fermenter or wait until tasting.

To MLF or not to MLF?

I have a batch of Lodi Zin and a batch of petite Syrah from grapes and I am wondering if I should do MLF. Both have the H2S problem right now, but racking will solve that. I am nervous about leaving them naked without meta right now and they actually taste nicely balanced so I don't know what...

    MLF Old Press Ghosts?

I bought an old wine press (like 1940's) and refinished it with food grade paint after blasting it with ground walnut shells. I then scrubbed it in soda ash before and misted with meta before my first pressing. Any chance that some old MLF made it through the process? I don't care because I am...

    Sulfur Smell

I have made 3 batches of Red this fall and two have the sulfur smell. The batch with RC 212 seems to be the worst and I remember that a kit I made with 212 last year had it as well and it disappeared after racking. This time, some Zin I made from Lodi Grapes has it with 212 as well as a batch of...
