What values do you use and does it vary by grape type?

in general, 3 pounds of grapes = 1 bottle of (finished) wine.

One 36lb 'lug' of grapes will get you about 2.5 gallons.

It does vary somewhat due to multiple factors, but that's a pretty good average.

Always seem to end up picking amounts that then stretch into multiple sized vessels... At least I have a bit of a guide now to start.

Mine may be just a touch high - I usually round up to compensate and also to account for the Angels' Share.

I always go with the easy to remember, easy to do the math, and just a bit high to take care of angels share, racking losses, and such. 100 lbs gives about a 6 gallon carboy or 30 bottles. It seems to work for me.
