In June of 2014 I planted 30 green grafted Cabernet Franc vines. They did very well their first year. Not a lot of height but a lot of green growth. In late March of 2015 I pruned them all back to two buds and they all came back but at different growth rates.
Now in late August after being in the ground for about 14 months I have some that are approximately 30" with pencil sized trunks and several that are not more than 18" with meager trunks although they are all green. No rhyme or reason as to the growth rates because the vigorous and less vigorous are spread throughout the vineyard.
My dilemma...should I prune the less vigorous vines back to two buds again this winter? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
