Anybody using these?
I bought some last week and used one in a AJ Cab Sauv I started on 1/15/09. The package says to use two per 5-6 gallon batch with a minium contact time of four months. I only used oneas I used the oak that came with the kit. I plan on using them on a MM VN Zin as well.

Thanks Paul

Paul,

If you used the oak chips per the Mosti instructions and are also adding additional oak, be sure to test early and often. The Stavin directions are for otherwise unoaked wine, so you'll want to take that into consideration in relation to the 'four month' instruction.

That's why I only used half of the recommended amount.
Have you used them?

Paul,

I have used the Stavin oak beans/cubes personally. With oak, regardless of method used to deliver it, it all comes down to taste. And remember, you can always (easily) add more, but taking it away becomes a bit more problematic. Just give a little smell/taste each week and see how your wine is coming along.
