WineXpert oak chips in kit

I was wondering if I am supposed to try to transfer the Oak chips that I am supposed to add before pitching yeast in my Mezza Luna Red Kit when racking the first time. According to the instructions they will only be in there 5-7 days is this long enough? Just thought I should ask. Lynn

The oak chips do not get transfered to the secondary as they have done their job.
