I have just started making fruit wines. So far I really enjoy it and I haven't even had a chance to share what I've done!

I was wondering if any of the nutritional value of the fruit leaches into the final product and if so, how much of it? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to replace one of those recommended daily servings of fruits/vegetables with bottles of wine! I am just curious if maybe drinking fruit wine made from oranges would help with vitamin C levels or if it is purely just flavor enhancer with no vitamin value at all.

If anyone knows or knows where to point me, I'd certainly appreciate it!

Looking forward to learning from your forum and crossing my fingers I don't become that annoying wanna-be winemaker guy!

Welcome Scence, you got me on that one but hopefully 1 of our resident scientists can give you some direction. With that name are into Judo or some other discipline?

I see no reason why the vitamins in fruit juice would not remain in the wine, but I have no definative research to support that. It is well established that wine - in moderation - is good for you. See the Wine and Your Health topic.

Not a martial artist..my brother is, but not me. It actually carries over from my days as an online gamer.

i wouldnt be surprised if the vits make it to the bottle but i bet with something like a blueberry wine theres a lot of antioxidents.

The most common positive aspect of wineis itsantioxidants. Natrol, found in grapes and wine is highest.
Resveratrol is the ingredient in red wine that made headlines in November when scientists demonstrated that it kept overfed mice from gaining weight, turned them into the equivalent of Olympic marathoners, and seemed to slow down their aging process.
Itduplicates the effects of calorie restriction and activates this longevity enzyme without dieting! It also counters the effects of free radicals, shields your system from oxidative cell damage, speeds up cellular repair and supports a healthy heart.

Katherine Tucker, PhD,says that findings from a study of more than 2,900 women and men suggest that "beer and wine really do have some nutritional value." She says beer may benefit bones because it contains silicon, which has been shown to promote bone health. Wine, on the other hand, is rich in phytochemicals, which also may benefit bones. Tucker is a professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center at Tufts University in Boston.
Daily consumptionof more than two drinks on the other hand, promotes osteoporosis."
