Damn that’s too bad but hey wines meant to be enjoyed who cares what the “experts” think as long as people enjoy it then you succeeded
 
Which isn’t atypical for a Petite Sirah and why the goal of this barrel to get the benefits of a wonderful grape, but not the tannic downside.
Try using some Powerlees Rouge by Laffort. Works miracles for tannic reds.
 
Use 71B yeast to soften it. If you are adding water you'll end up with a flat wine which will need acid from something one or more high acid blenders e.g. Barbera, red hybrid like Foch, tartaric or even citric acid after malolactic fermentation.
