Has anyone ever built their own fruit press or fruit crusher? Did you just build it, or did you get plans from the internet? How did it turn out? Did you really save any money?

I have my little apple press I use for grapes also but will eventually make or buy one. My older brother copied mine last year and had the fun of building his own with his own wood. And it only cost half again as much as buying one pre-built!

It depends on the size you need and what you will press. The smaller ones really are quite inexpensive. Not sure how they build them for what they do!

jw if you want a bunch of ideas for making your own press, go over to the winepress.us forum section on equipment. Look through the posts and you will find a number of guys have made them from very simple to one that is a work of art by Ryan -agravehra. Here are a couple links to some.

there is even one somewhere made out of a 5 gallon plastic bucket and some screw rod and scraps of wood. They had it listed in WineMaker Mag last autumn.
