I'm thinking of building a table top wine press and picked up some Hard Maple and some oak, I bought some precut Oak Slats but they are not beveled as seen on most press baskets, do the slats have to be beveled ?

also the disk are Hard Maple but were glued with glue that was is not water proof, so I will need to seal it, Is there any other food grade sealers besides EZ-DO that are food grade ?

Hey Bunky, welcome to the forum.

IMHO, the slats do not have to be beveled. The inside surface of the slat does the work and when they are arranged on the on the inside of the rings, they should just about butt with each other. I would leave about 1/16" or so. You only want the juice going through the opening.

Sorry, can't help with the sealers. I am sure someone on the forum can, though.

Shellac is a food grade finish. They use it on some candies so it's safe to eat.
