Chrystals on cork?

So I opened a bottle of 2009 Norton from a local winery, Weston Farm and pour a small glass. When I am taking my first sip I notice a fair amount of fines in the glass.
I thought this unusual especially at the top of the bottle so I looked at the underside of the cork and it was covered in a thin layer of sediment with a glistening look almost like stripper dust.
Is this Tartaric chrystals?

Sounds like the bottle was stored upside down (thats how I do it too); tartaric crystals almost look like small pieces of wine-colored glass shards..

From the wrong stripper, it could cause crystals on your cork.

Dave: pretty sure that's tartaric settling.

Yes, definitely appears to be potassium bitartrate. Wine diamonds.
