I have a barrel (10 gallon) filled with wine that is situated among 9 or 10 filled carboys. All of my carboy airlocks are showing pressure while the barrel airlock never shows pressure. I am hoping this is attributed to the fact that the gasses are being released through the barrel staves and therefore my airlock does not show pressure. Is this correct or is my rubber stopper not seated in the hole properly.

i am not saying this IS your answer..but could be...a barrel will withstand some infilling of gasses, since it still has some flexibility, before it will show that pressure to teh naked eye

I find that some bung holes are not very smooth.

By really jamming in the rubber bung, I can get a seal that holds pressure.

my advise is to first remove the f-lock from the stopper, then insert the stopper very, very firmly. Once in place, you can then insert the f-lock into the stopper.

Check to see just how rough the wood is. If it is rough, then perhaps a little sandpaper is in order?
