Corona Virus & Day to Day

Nice, simple. If you need to help explain it to someone that just doesn't seem to WANT to understand. ;)

Post a Meme, any Meme! (no politics)

Looking up definitions they may well be afoul of the law calling this spirits since it is alcohol free.

Corona Virus & Day to Day

Just passing along some info I found interesting while doing some research because my mother had a stroke and is in 'rehab'. They would treat my visits differently if I were "fully vaccinated" so the statistical anomoly between my 'paritial' status and the J&J 'full' status is a little less...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

Even before the second dose, BNT162b2 was highly efficacious, with a vaccine efficacy of 92.6%, a finding similar to the first-dose efficacy of 92.1% reported for the mRNA-1273 vaccine (Moderna).3 https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2036242 The second dose is about increasing antibody...

    The Bread Thread

I make small loaves so I fashioned a rack I can lower in and use parchment paper on it. My wife doesn't like the bottom if, in her opinion, it gets over done. This keeps it off the bottom and seems to help with that.

    Degas Prior to Racking

For some reason when I looked at the title and saw "degas" I wondered what Edgar Degas had to do with wine making. Now that I'm always going to make that connection I thought I'd inflict it on others. Feel free to add me to you ignore list. :p

    The Bread Thread

I make a 40% whole wheat and am still tweaking. I just moved to another house so I'm getting used to a different oven. I make half loaves. I keep half the dough refrigerated for about a week. This is the refrigerated half.

Corona Virus & Day to Day

So 260 million of 330 million are among the first? Math seems right to me. I've had my evening quota of wine and going back for more.

Corona Virus & Day to Day

It seems the vaccine trials are going to take a little longer. Could it be that people volunteering for the studies are more likely to be careful to start with so getting to the requisite number of infections is taking longer? Let's face it. I'm willing to bet zero anti-vaxxers have signed...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

I got duped by click bait on an article mentioning vaccine efficacy percentage in the title. Of course, none was given in the article. Blind studies means no one really knows yet. Complete fails would probably be weeded out early though because they would already have the requisite number of...

Corona Virus & Day to Day

The number of active cases per 100K doesn't sound scary. Then you see the toll it is taking on hospital workers and the families of those that did suffer the worst of it. People still in financial distress. When you are fortunate enough that it hasn't encroached closely into YOUR life past...

Homemade vs. Commercial and what I am doing to close the gap

So, the de-stemmer is the red machine? The grapes come out of that cutout and roll down the red sheet metal? Just trying to picture how that works. 🤔

NEVER AGAIN ! This is "Black Raspberry" Flavored Concentrate? I don't think so!!!

If their product ships as shown I'd have to think they run afoul of labeling laws. Do they even have a sticker with an ingredient list on the jug?

Used oxi-clean and need advice plz

I keep a 5 gallon bucket of StarSan on hand. But, as a test you could try some vinegar. Depends on what you have. I also have things like citric acid available. At this point you just want to see if it will work. You only need to test one bottle.

Used oxi-clean and need advice plz

If the magic eraser took it off they may not be etched. Try an acid soak of some sort on a few and see if that helps.

Airlock vigorously bubbling and blowing water out

If you are using a 3 piece air lock then leave the top cover off. The holes aren't big enough to allow much gas out. Still, I don't snap my lid down until fermentation slows down a bit. I may still need to leave that top cover off for awhile.

RE: The loss of Jack Keller

Any thing on the net worth preserving will persist. Many here thought most/all? of his recipes were a little light on the fruit. Don't get all hot and bothered about the contributors name. Not like all of that information sprouted new from his head. I'm not a fan of Skeeter Pee but the...

little bubbles in finished Pinot Noir kit from Cru International

I have a food saver and use these. https://www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-T03-0024-02-Bottle-Stoppers-3-Pack/dp/B0000CFPH9/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=vacuum+sealer+bottle+stopper&qid=1600649726&s=home-garden&sr=1-3 Anything that pulls a vacuum would work. Might not be instant but they are useful...

little bubbles in finished Pinot Noir kit from Cru International

Decant was a good suggestion. Aerator might be another way. I have a vacuum sealer and bought the stoppers that go with it. I'd go bottle at a time rather than risk ruining the whole batch.
