    Tobacco Wine

Doesn't sound that crazy to me. I've seen a Perique Liqueur on the market, though I've never tried any.

Scion Wood Exchange - lets get some started

Thanks WVMJ, Shame about the Pear. Ole girl is getting up in years. I'll read up on proper pruning. As for the Grape, I'm not expecting much. I'm a bit nervous if they will root now either, but the mama vine will be there next year if I need to try again. I'll use the search here and...

Scion Wood Exchange - lets get some started

I apparently didn't know what this was all about. I still kind of don't. Though, something good may of come from this after all... for me at least. I went and took that piece from my Pear Tree and planted it in a planter along with several clippings I took from a neighbor's unknown white...

Thanks Sour Grapes, for explaining that to me.

What is the reasoning why you shouldn't use Bleach? I've seen this said in Forums before, but I never questioned it. I use OxyClean(Green) and either K-Meta solution or Star-San. Though, I have seen sites say it's fine to use Bleach, as long as it's prepared correctly... proper Ratio to...

    Something went wrong with filtering

Stef57, you probably did rinse it well. I was just trying to think of what may be the culprit. Does the OxyClean smell/taste similar? Were the pads and filter near anything soapy in the closet? Again, I'm just trying to narrow down the possibilities. I wish you luck.

    Something went wrong with filtering

Just from this information, which OxyClean did you use? Did it not rinse completely out? I know the OxyClean Free has the Green lid and no perfumes or dyes. You did say you rinsed and sanitized, so I can be completely wrong.

    First wine kit finished!

I believe I have the same type of degasser(Looks like a plastic coat hanger). The stopper is fitted on there. The first time I used it with a Carboy I got the shavings every where. Another thing is the siphon, I couldn't get it to work either. I drank more then I was racking, not to mention the...

    Frozen welch grape concentrate

Everyone has to make The Welch's at least once. There are a few that always catch the new guy's eye. EdWort's Apfelwein, Joe's Ancient Orange (JAOM), DangerDave's Dragon Blood, Lon D's Skeeter Pee. If you look at the success that Dave's Dragon Blood has, you'll see that there are some that...

Congratulations Rodnboro. Thanks Steve/Vacuumpumpman for the opportunity. This was a fine gesture on your part.

    Pearson Square

I read the thread http://www.winemakingtalk.com/forum/f137/port-accident-48858/#post554195 . I probably put link in wrong, sorry. I looked up Pearson Square in search and there were many threads that came up, but none that were easy to find, for me at least. A...

Scion Wood Exchange - lets get some started

I may try this with my Pear tree. We are in a deep freeze here right now. When do you think a good time to make the cut before spring planting?

    A note on notes

I agree, taking notes is a great idea. I've been using 'Personal' notebooks to write all my information in. I just recently started using Google Documents to store my notes. I found it easier to refer back and find information quickly. Also, I can access them even if I'm not home or can't get...

7 day wine kit - progress so far and question about taste

Nice, I'm glad you were successful on your first batch. My first time making basically went down the drain, 6 gallons. That was probably the longest '7 days' of your life. It shows a lot you took your time and made it right. Good luck on your next batch.

Ahk! Rotten egg in Mosti All juice!

I just read it. It's nice to see a thread run a course. Did the lab get back to you, or is it a waste of time to even send it? I'm just curious if there was a something wrong with the juice to begin with.

    Too much sugar?

~3.3 pounds of sugar ~2.2 pounds dates ~1.0 pounds raisins Most likely an Imperial gallon. One of the on-line calculators after typing in the above info gave a SG of 1.201 or 24.2 Potential Alcohol. Seems just a bit high, yeah. Though, who knows what the sugar content is in the fruit...

7 day wine kit - progress so far and question about taste

Hi OhEmGee, I by far am no expert, but I do have opinions. Some say too many and mostly wrong. Anyways. First I think this 7-10 day kit is kind of cool. Especially for a first kit because too many people get over anxious and want stuff now and now. So this could probably get you a product to...
