    Wine Headache?

I have made a dozen or so batches of different reds, and so far this Pinotage is the only one that gave us a headache, (except for over indulgence). I'll try leaving the sobate out if I make it again. Thanks Jim

    Wine Headache?

It was a Cellar craft kit. We just used what was in the kit, not smart enough to add/subtract other ingredients! Jim

    Wine Headache?

Wonder if anyone else has had this problem? We made a batch of Pinotage. Tastes great! Every time we drink a bottle ( my wife and I ), it seems to give us both a headache the next day. Just 1 bottle, split between us. Nothing else to drink. Jim

    Cellar Craft Oak Cubes

Hello I currently have a batch of Pinotage going. Instructions say to add the oak cubes during the clearing phase, but I am thinking of adding them during secondary fermentation. Any thoughts? Jim

    S.G testing

Hello When using a wine thief to test SG, it seems the Hyd sticks to the side of the thief, therby giving a false reading. If that is so, what trick is there to get an accurate reading? I have just been putting the Hyd into the wine directly. BTW, the Cab I made last winter is...

    Cork Seating

I just bottled my 2nd batch, and have noticed that the corks don't always seat flush with the top of the bottle. I am using the Portogee hand corker, and Georges #9 corks. Is this normal or is my technique flawed? Jim

what type of bottles are ok to use?

I have used Grolsh bottles with great success for years. No capper needed, 16oz bottles, plenty strong. Grolsh isn't cheap to buy, but try your local bar that serves it. Ask if they will save them for you. I got most of mine that way. Jim

    Another benefit of this hobby

Don't overlook the Russian River area. Not nearly as crowded as Napa, and some quality winerys, as well as theKorbel Champagne works. The tour there (used to be great), haven't been there in a number of years. Also of note ( if it's still there) is the Hop Kiln Winery in the RR area. Geez ...

    Another benefit of this hobby

Hi I am new to this sport, but I have discovered a side benefit. We did up a batch of Cab, racked it to the secondary, and cleaned up the primary. Walked past it today and took a wiff. WOW. What a great smell! Reminds me of all the winerys we visited during the time I was in the...
