    I appreciate the help.

    Super Kleer

So it's a "coin flip" between bentonite and super kleer? Just a matter of preference to the individual wine maker?

    Oxi Clean?

Thanks Waldo. I appreciate the help.

    Super Kleer

Are there any negative effects of using Super Kleer? I see that it is kieselol and chitosan (products derived from shellfish). These chemicals mean nothing to me. Are these harmful in any way? I'm not a fan of over using chemicals when a patience will achieve the same result. Also are...

    Oxi Clean?

Do you guys use the Oxi-clean Versatile or the Oxi-Clean Free? I think the versatile has the blue particles in it, which I whink someone said is fragrance? I think the free is fragrant free. I can only get the free in a large tub. The versatile is in smaller packaging. Thanks.

    Interesting Observation

I recently racked a batch of apple wine off the lees and added bentonite to aid in clearing. I filleda one gallonglass carboy up to within a couple inches from the top and filled another one gallon glass carboy up 3/4 of the way. I topped up the second with glass marbles. The carboy with the...

    Grape Varieties

Appleman, that would be great. I will beup therefor the week of Thanksgiving. I would love to visit your vineyard. I will be in the area I would imagine once a month to tend the vines. Myparents are fruit farmers(raspberries, blueberries, apples, crab apples, cherries, honeybees, etc.) My mother...

    Grape Varieties

Appleman - I'm about half way through your "diary". Very impressive. I understand a half acre is a lot. I guess I used that as to not be too specific. I am thinking about 75 vines total, and see where it goes from there. I think that is less than 0.1 acres actually, according to Jeff Cox (From...

    Mosti Mondiale Primary Fermentation

I have my second wine kit in the primary fermentation stage. The first kit I made was a Mosti Cab Souv and during primary there was a thick layer of foam on top of the wine every day when I would go to stir. The second kit I now have in primary is a Mosti White Zin, however there was a thick...

    Grape Varieties

Has anyone had wine from the following grape varieties? I am thinking of starting a small vineyard (1/2 acre) in upstate NY. The Vitis Vinefera varieties are not hardy enough for the area. I have researched the following and I think they will grow in my area however I have never had wine from...

    Sweetening apple wine

I have a batch of apple wine currently in the clearing stage. I think I would like to swetten it as it is some what dry/bitter. I have some honey from my fathers bee hives. Has anyone tried sweetening wine with honey? Feeback? Also, how should it be added to the wine i.e. boil with water or a...

    Sediment in bottles

The wine was a mosti cab sov. It appeared clear with a flashlight before bottling but I racked it into the bucket and a small amount of the sediment off the bottom made it into the bucket. Enough to cause a problem. I think I should have let it sit and racked again before bottling. Oh welll, I'm...

    Sediment in bottles

I bottled my first batch from a wine kit this past weeekend and I just checked the bottles and there's a small amount of sediment in the bottles. Should I open the bottles and put the wine back in the carboy to settle further, hopefully eliminating the sediment? Is there anything I can do later...
