    Cheap Wine Bottles

If anyone lives near NW Arkansas and needs some wine bottles I am overstocked!! It is probably not worth the time/cost to ship them anywhere but if someone lives by my area and wants some bottles- please let me know! Thanks, Lenore

RJ Spagnols Chocolate Orange Port and Filtering

I just received my chocolate orange port kit and see that it requires filtering. I have never filtered my wine before and was curious if it is necessary? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks, Lenore

    Sanitizing & Your Lungs

Hi to all, I have a question about sanitizing. I use a sulfur solution. I usually clean my equipment when I am done and leave some sanitizer locked in there so I don't have to re-clean the big items when I need them. That sulfur is so potent and harsh on the lungs. This has led me to some...

    WineXpert Chocolate-Rasberry Port Started

Well I have never thought a wine tasted good at this stage of the game. However I have hada quite generous glass this evening and a small glass last night. It is really tasty. I think the choc rasp is smooth and not overpowering but obviously enough to overcome unfinished wine taste!!

    WineXpert Chocolate-Rasberry Port Started

You guys are funny. I am enjoying a glass of the port that would not fit in my carboy or sanitized bottle right now. Yum!

    WineXpert Chocolate-Rasberry Port Started

Mine refuses to drop below 1.008. It has been holding for 5 days now, think it is time to stabilize and clear.

    WineXpert Chocolate-Rasberry Port Started

I racked mine yesterday at 1.011. I was a day late. It is VERY full. I will be sure to sanitize some bottles when I stir so I don't waste any port. I think I will probably need to remove a gallon of wine to fit the f-pack and stir!!

I will be doing that later today.

    WineXpert Chocolate-Rasberry Port Started

The yeast is still on top but I have lots of fizz and deep bubbles in there. So it is on it's way. My starting SG was 1.124.

A topic that is almost never discussed

I use my Mixstir and stir it up for 1 minute each direction for each step of the stirring. When I bottle, I fill each bottle and then vacu-vin each bottle, allow each bottle to settle and then cork. This method for me has resulted in less work and still wine. The wine is uncorked for about 15...

    WineXpert Chocolate-Rasberry Port Started

I started mine yesterday as well. I am doing a double batch to save me from having to buy smaller carboys!! It is off to a good start. I am impressed with the labels and think I will use them. Are you planning to fortify yours?

WineXpert Lodi Cabernet or Stags Leap Merlot???

They are both so wonderful. I don't believe I could choose a favorite. I guess it would have to come down to whether you prefer a Merlot or a Cabernet. Either way you won't go wrong with either of these kits!!

WineXpert Received My Choc Rasp Port

For those of you who have fortified, how much does it dilute the flavor? If I wanted this to be 20%ABV I would have to add 750ml of Brandy and 750ml of Everclear to my double batch if I understand the post in the link.

WineXpert Received My Choc Rasp Port

Too bad WE doesn't provide you with a list of: here is how to fiddle our kits and void your warranty instructions!!!

WineXpert Received My Choc Rasp Port

I have never made a port before. From what I understand the ending alcohol content will be about 17%? I am considering fortifiying. If I am correct, a "regular" port is about 20%? I am doubling this kit to make 6 gallons (2 kits together). So if I choose to fortify with brandy, how much brandy...

WineXpert Ready to Make My 2nd Kit

Mezza Luna is my personal favorite. It is inexpensive, ready quick and ready to drink right away. It is bolder than some of the other reds I have tried at this price point. I have found of the lesser expensive reds to be thin but have always enjoyed the Mezza Luna. If you want to spend the extra...

    WineXpert Early Or Late

That is what I mean. I have done so many wines, but have never had to leave when such a vital step was due to be completed. That's what I get for failing to consult the calendar before starting a wine!!

    WineXpert Early Or Late

My Italian Pinot Grigio is in the secondary and due to be stirred soon. I will be unable to take care of it on time. My question is, provided the SG is still, 6 days early or 6 days late for the stirring? What are the risks either way? I appreciate your answers.
