Plastic vs Glass & Cork vs Rubber

wow, good response! i have noticed the problem with the plastic moving as i would touch it and for this reason alone i do prefer glass. the plastic also retains a faint taint from the previous wine. also i do prefer the rubber bung, it does give a much better seal!

Plastic vs Glass & Cork vs Rubber

Hi guys! I have been wondering what your opinion are on the above matters! do you prefer glass demijohns and carboys to their plastic equivalent? I know i certainly prefer glass over plastic. I'm still on the fence over the cork vs rubber bung debate. I'm only taking about using it in the...

i know its not exactly wine, but the principles are the same :P basically does my plan of action below sound ok? so, whilst checking my wine the other day I noticed one of my protein jars was nearly empty and its slightly bigger than the demijohn. so I decided that it would make an excellent...

    Demijohn bargain!

they are the normal 1 gallon jars. just plain glass with the little ears for handles at the neck. I'm chuffed with the price because over here a single pair of glass DJs can cost as much as £18! which in equates to $28. how much would you expect to pay of the equivalent in the states? for...

    what to do now

forgive my lack of knowledge but what do you mean by stabilise? and i think the gravity was just below 1000, but will need to double check that as the wine is at home and I'm in a different country at university.

    what to do now

Hi guys, So my rhubarb wine and my damson wine seem to have finished bubbling after the second racking. should i leave them as they are for another few weeks to clear and settle or should i rack them a second time already? They were only racked about 3 weeks ago after being in secondary for...

    vineyard jobs

Thanks for the info guys, been a great help. I'm not really looking a for a career in winemaking per se, I have just read about students helping pick grapes for the harvest during the season. I know its pretty low paid work, but its a great way to see some parts of the world. Have you ever heard...
