    White Haze, ring, film

    6 week Vineco, amarone, grape skins kit Followed the instructions as per normal, with the exception, I only added one of the Chitosan packs that came with the kit, I meant to add both but didn't. After all steps were complete and the kit was ready for bottling on day 42, I decided to rack...

    Headspace - Bulk vs Bottle aging

    Making a Kenridge Grape Skin Amarone Kit. The kit is at a stage where it is ready to bottle, however it is my intention to age this kit for about a year before drinking. My intention was always to bulk age this kit, however I have a fair amount of head space in the carboy and I worry about...

    Aging = bad smell/taste?

    As far as racking, I followed the kit directions exactly. The wine was filtered at the time of bottling with a #2 pad from Buon Vino. It may have improved, but we dumped it right away and had some 8 month old En Primeur which was great!

    Aging = bad smell/taste?

    I made a 10L cheeky monkey Malbec about 10 months ago, it tasted OK at the time of bottling and was good until the time it was gone about 4 months later. After bottling this kit I gave a bottle to my mother who kept it at her house until last night when we drank it. Upon pouring this bottle...

    next kit=shiraz

    I bottled a Kenridge 16L Australia Shiraz a few months ago. It tasted good young and tasted even better now, I can hardy wait to try it again in another month or two. I would recomend this.

    Wrong Time to Degass, oops

    I have the Buon Vino Super Jet, so the pads are bit larger than the minijet. I always use the #2 filters. I think my best bet maybe to buy another glass carboy for $20 at the store. When I am done I can always sell it on Kijiji if I dont want it.

    Wrong Time to Degass, oops

    I have a kit of Kenridge Merlot that is scheduled to be bottled tomorrow (Friday), however on Tuesday my wife accidentally degassed the this kit instead of antoher kit with a drill stirring device, of course the kit is completley cloudy now. Typically this would not be an issue and I would let...

    Aging in bottles before spoiling

    Thanks for all of the suggestions. I dont expext any of the wines to make it to the 4 year mark, so I am not going to worry about this. I like to bottle quickly as to not tie up my 3 carboys, but in the case that I do decide to bulk age some of the kits do I use a solid bung stopper or one...

    Aging in bottles before spoiling

    I have been making a variety of different brands of 10-18L kits, and following the instructions to the letter. After doing a bunch of reading on this site about aging wine everyone seems to recomend additional sulfites to help the aging/longevity of the wine. I have not added anything extra to...

    Best 4 Week Kit?

    I agree that some of the kits could use a bit more body, particularily the CM Shiraz/Zin. Flavor was great, but needed a bit more body. I know my local retailer sells grape skin packs, but have never really looked at them. Do I need to buy a specific variety of grape skins to match the kit...

    Best 4 Week Kit?

    I am just wondering what people are liking as a 4 week kit. I have 2 carboys typically I like to make a 6 week kit in one and a 4 week kit in the other. This allows me to age the 6 week kit in the bottles and drink the 4 week kit right away. I have done a few cheeky monkey kits so far...

    Super Jet Filters

    What is the reasoning behind not filterting at the time of bottling? Also I do not filter directly into bottles, I filter into a holding container and fill from there, this allows me to run the pump continuosly without turning on and off. But the time the wine sits in the holding container...

    Super Jet Filters

    Yes I place the syphon end about 1/4 of the way down and continually adjust as the carboy level decreases. The filters that I am using are a Red #2 filter. Will I notice much of a differnence between the final product between a red and blue filter?

    Super Jet Filters

    Hello Just finished bottling my 5th and 6th kit last night, and 3/4 of the way through bottling my filters were too clogged to continue. Luckily I had a spare set to finish the batch. I just wanted to know if this was normal. The 4 other kits that I have done I only bottled single kits...
