October 2014 Wine of the Month Club

I racked my peach gallon into the glass bottle and then about 15 days later into another glass bottle to get it off the stuff on the bottom. It's sitting now. I measured the acid today and it was .40 so I added a little acid blend. About have of what was suggested so I don't over do it . . . ...

October 2014 Wine of the Month Club

Hi All . . . Racked my peach into the secondary this afternoon. It's pretty cloudy but the SG is down to .995. I did sneak a slight taste and it's pretty harsh right now. I hope it gets better.

Yeast starter not foaming this morning?

I waited long enough until I knew my father-in-law would be up and about. He said it probably foamed up in the night then settled. When looking at the glass it was in, there was residue up the sides so he's probably right. I have added the yeast to my must and I am off to work. We'll see what...

I am making my first fruit wine (1 gal peach) . . . I an following the instructions of "Enjoy Home Winemaking" by Robert & Eileen Frishman. I made the yeast start last night using 4 oz of water, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/4 tsp nutrient, and a package of wine yeast. It bubbled a little bit and...

October 2014 Wine of the Month Club

I posted in Sept that I was going to start a gal of Peach wine. That didn't happen due to not being home enough consecutive days to be able start it and get through the primary fermentation. So I am finally starting it today. The Must is in the bucket and I have a yeast starter brewing at the...

This sounds interesting . . Being new here . . . also anything I make at this point is an experiment! I am going to start a 1 gal batch of peach wine. I need a couple things from the store first then I'll get it going. I thought about adding frozen grape concentrate like some recipes have...

    Peach Wine 1 Gal Primary?

I have a 3 1/2 gal bucket (food grade from a restaurant) with a lid. I can drill a hole in the lid and fit a stopper and air-lock. Is that too big of a container for a primary for a 1 gal batch of wine? Also, the recipes I am looking at basically say add fruit, ingredients and add water to...

    Hello Again

Actually sort of yet . . . I am making the wine from pears that came from my son's house with help/guidance from my wife's father! They will both get a few bottles . . . The pears are cleaned and cut up and in the freezer. I intended to have it started by now. I am sort "on call" to travel...

    Hello Again

I joined this forum a long time ago but never made any wine . . . I made one batch of grape wine from a kit about 10 years ago. Never made anymore after that. I am going to try again. I have 40lbs of small pears waiting outside for me to get them cut up . . . . The house my son lives in has...

Red Seedless Grapes - Just scored 34lbs free

I don't doubt that Tom is correct. Since they were free, I'll make it anyways and see how things go. I want to try a couple small 1 gallon batches, strawberry and pomegranate.

Red Seedless Grapes - Just scored 34lbs free

Yea they are table grapes. I ran them through the juicer. The juice tastes good, light but good. I'll give them a shot and see what I get. They are all juice now. If nothing else I'll learn something.

Grapes: No Grape press . . How about a Juicer?

I have all these grapes and am picking them off the stems at the moment. I was reading and found I don't have access to a grape press to get the juice out. My sister has a juicer. Any reason not to just run them through that to get the juice?
