The light bilb just went on LOL!!! Only thing I'm wondering is, why the 4x4's on the end? Seems to me this would holt everything just fine without them. Did you secure the 2x4's to the bottom shelve at all or did you count on the face plate to secure it?

You may be right in that the 4x4's may be overkill. 2x4's may be adequate. I felt the 4x4's would add horizontal stability as there are no cross struts in the rear. A pice of plywood attached to the rear would really secure horizontal stability, but I built this in position right agains the wall. I'm considering adding more levels. If I do that, I'll likely attach the unit to the wall for additional stability. Thanks for your interest.

Oh yes, I did secure the 2x4's I used wood screws. As I added each new level, I screwed down from the top into the 2x4 below. I also added additional screws from the front end of the 2x4 to the level below. Stability, stability, stabiltiy, for my wine.

Oh no Chris, there's no patent. I'm honored that you would condider using my design. During down time at work I sketched out lots of plans that never felt the cut of the saw. I liked the final design as it was inexpensive, simple to build, and could be built higher as the need arises. I'll likely be adding several additional levels soon as I have another 100+ bottles to put up from my late season ferments. I built the rack where it stands, one level at a time. Make sure to use a level to assure sides and front are in plum.

Best of luck with your project and thanks for asking.

Great idea, i used 4x4 supports all the way across and used 1/2 OSB for the horizontal part. Very solid and inexpensive. This will be my aging rack and I'll build more of a display rack out of hardwood

That sounds very sturdy wood1954. After bottling several of my 2011 wines I'm starting to run out of space. I may have to add on several more levels. Thanks for sharing your comment here and I'm glad my design may have aided you with your project.
