    Penalized for unnecessary racking.

Sooo, Had to rack my Pinot Gris off those damn "gross lees" (?). Okay, that went well. Looked at the cab I had racked two weeks ago and it looked like it still had 3/4 to 1" of schist at the bottom. I figured since I had all the stuff out anyway I might as well re-rack that too. Turns out that's...

Topping off/up with water or wine

Looking for some threads/debates/discussions about the benefits of topping with either water or wine. I wish Jesus was here, he could do the water into wine for me...

    Small batch recommendations?

I'd like to get the out-laws (my in-laws) a three gallon or so kit. They're in their 80's and a 5 gal kit is too heavy (glass carboys and all). My FIL's dad used to make 250 gal per summer and all his relatives would come from Brooklyn to "visit" and drink free wine. My FIL has expressed...

    Fermenting temps...

Just an observation... So, I started a WE Pinot Gris three days ago. Pitched the yeast at about 73°F. Fermentation room (basement laundry room) is about 67°. Primary temp dropped and fermentation started. Went downstairs tonight to see how everything is coming along. I have two buckets right...

    Disaster strikes! Recovery...

So, I finally managed to rack a batch (my 2nd) of wine into a car boy without any disasters. I also moved my "disaster pinot" into phase III. So far, so good. Merry Christmas/Happy Chanukah/Joyous Kwanzaa/ Happy Holidays (I think that covers it...) to all!

    Rose in my airlock!

So, I'm making the WE Lodi Cab. As I was visiting here yesterday, I came across a thread that suggested stirring the juice and the grape skins every couple of days. Made sense to me, so I did. Came back a few hours later and my airlock was now pink. It's nice to know the little yeasties are...

    Disaster strikes!

So, I'm on my first batch of wine (WE Pinot Noir). Good OG (1.1), fermentation started about 5 hours later. First rack gravity about .993. Whilst racking into the carboy, my primary slides off the (Samsung) dryer spraying about 4.5 gals of wine all over (and I mean ALLLL over) my laundry room...

    Homebrewer now also making wine.

Greetings. We have a few guys at my job who make wine and I finally decided to give it a go. I've been brewing for about four years. Hoping to learn as much here as I did at homebrewtalk.
